Church Roof Project

South Asia is home to the highest concentration of least-reached people groups in the world, with over 1.7 billion people who don’t have access to a church that preaches the gospel in their language and worships in a culturally relevant way. However, God is building His Kingdom in this least-reached region! And, He’s working through local believers to expand His Church in communities where few know him.

Many South Asian churches are reproducing rapidly, and as they do, having their own building in which they can worship is important to their growth and the spread of the gospel. Hindus, who make up the majority of the population of this region, are accustomed to worshiping in temples; due to this cultural norm, they are often hesitant to attend a worship service in a home or public place.

Hindus typically consider any worship place a holy place, and when followers of Christ can invite them to worship the God of the Bible in a church building, they’re often more open to attending and to the message of Christ. Thus, for South Asian churches seeking to reach their communities, constructing a permanent building is a big step forward in increasing their ability to reach out.

Thanks to relatively low building costs in the region and congregations willing to work and sacrifice, churches can often construct the walls of a building for about $4,000—approximately 10 year’s wages for one man. But many churches struggle to complete their buildings with a roof, which is a significant expense: an additional $2,000 to $3,000.

The Church Roof Project comes alongside these churches, providing the funds needed to add a roof to their buildings, and thus have permanent structures that are recognized as holy places by their communities. Your gift will help a South Asian fellowship more effectively reach others with the gospel and eventually grow to plant additional churches in the least-reached region of the world.

Specific Needs:

Currently, there are three churches each needing $3,000 for their roof, while two other smaller churches both need $2,000 for their roofs.

Participate by Praying:

• Ask God that through the financial gifts of believers around the world, the Church Roof Project can partner with and encourage South Asian churches.
• Pray for the members of a church currently meeting in front of a believer’s home. Ask for encouragement and good fellowship for them even as church gatherings must be cancelled when it rains or functions are taking place in the home. And, lift them up as they begin working on their church building.
